Notable Inspiration: Mid-Century Modern and Scandinavian Design
What made the finished design unique: A true eclectic at heart, Harry drew on his knowledge of multiple eras and styles for this project. The trained eye can see subtle references to both mid-century modern and Scandinavian designs, but the overall impact of the spaces is a contemporary eclectic feel with touches of glam. Harry’s strategic design choices — like geometric and textured wall coverings, the use of board and batten wainscoting in the entryway, and the deep green feature wall in the office — made each space unique and elevated the overall aesthetic of the home.
We bet you’d never guess: This is Harry’s own home! He and his husband made the decision to work with a builder in a community, which allowed them to select their plot as well as their interior and exterior finishes. They chose the cabinetry, countertops and wall tile for the primary bath as part of the purchase process. While the couple had originally planned to complete the interior design in stages, a serendipitous turn of events meant they were able to push up the timeline and get the whole house designed much sooner. everything else was after-build including the floors.
Our favorite part: This was the couple’s first home together, so it was extremely important the design represent a true melding of their styles. Harry’s husband’s influence can be seen in the stunning blue velvet dining chairs as well as the curvilinear kitchen bar stools and the stylish green sofa.
Our client’s reaction: After investing valuable time and resources, Harry and his husband Nicholas are happily enjoying their beautiful home. Nicholas will be the first to say that he’s not a designer and, as such, he was unable to see the full vision while they were working on the project. When there was an element he really loved, he trusted Harry to incorporate it. Throughout their home Harry made sure to choose elements that represented both of them individually and as a couple, which resulted in a design as cohesive, unique, and dynamic as their partnership. When the work was done, Nicholas breathed a sigh of relief; while looking around admiring all of their hard work he said that he loved their home.
