Client Context & Vision: When our client said, “color drenching,” it was music to our ears! Their desire to dare and willingness to trust empowered us to push the concept to its full potential. While the media room was designed with their high school and college-aged daughters in mind—with the caveat that guests should feel at home in the space too—the sunroom was more about suiting their lifestyle. The space had previously been designated for working from home and working out, but would now be for lounging and enjoying the good life.
Notable Inspiration: Monochromatic palettes layered with texture, pattern, and sculptural forms
What Made the Finished Design Unique: Full color drenching in both rooms, from ceilings and walls to doors, trim, and architectural features.
In the media room, a bold, immersive palette anchored by Benjamin Moore’s Old Navy, carried through furnishings and even electrical switches and outlets for a seamless effect (the magic is in the details!). Custom was also key—from the draperies and sofa to the area rug. Every layer, every texture was meticulously matched with the monochromatic scheme. While the sculptural chandelier offers a more traditional form of overhead lighting, no media room is complete without movie-theater-style lighting placed on dimmers to allow full mood-setting capabilities. A lacquered kidney-bean-shaped coffee table and mid-century-inspired media cabinet with brass hardware add a touch of glamour to the space.
In the Sunroom we used a softer voice—using Benjamin Moore’s Beach Glass to color drench the space and create a serene environment. Lounge-style seating using varied silhouettes invites intimate gatherings and moments of relaxation.
Design Challenges & Constraints: This was a no-construction redesign, requiring the transformation rely entirely on furnishings, lighting, finishes, and detailing rather than structural changes. What made this additionally challenging was the many functions the media room needed to fill—teen hangout, movie room, and guest bedroom, without sacrificing sophistication or comfort.
We Bet You’d Never Guess: The Media Room doubles as a guest bedroom—the sofa is a pullout sleeper with a 10” inflatable mattress.
Our Favorite Part: The Chandeliers in both rooms—each a statement in its own right and perfectly attuned to the mood of the space it inhabits.
Our Client’s Reaction: They wanted to go bold and daring and we delivered an unexpected and refined infusion of new life. They were thrilled with the completed designs.
