Luxury Commercial Restroom Renovation
A hospitality-inspired transformation where saturated color, distinctive pattern, and carefully layered lighting turn an unexpected space into a memorable guest experience.
Beyond the Expected
A Functional Space Designed to Leave an Impression
Created for a returning commercial client, this women’s restroom renovation offered HLM Designs the freedom to reimagine an often overlooked part of the guest experience. The goal was not simply to refresh the space, but to create an environment with the presence and personality of a beautifully considered boutique hotel.
European references, dramatic color, custom-feeling details, and layers of pattern come together in a space that feels elevated, welcoming, and completely unexpected.

The Creative Direction
Boutique Hospitality, Reinterpreted
The design began with inspiration drawn from boutique hotel bathrooms and richly layered European apartments. While the original color direction leaned toward blue, HLM Designs introduced a more distinctive palette anchored by Benjamin Moore Classic Burgundy.
That saturated foundation created room for warm wood vanities, brass finishes, marble surfaces, patterned wallcoverings, and Moroccan-inspired tile. Together, these elements bring depth and character to a commercial space without sacrificing function.
Each decision was made to give guests the feeling that they had stepped somewhere completely unexpected.
Design Without Assumptions
You would never guess this richly layered space is located inside a church.
Every Detail Considered
A Different Experience Behind Every Door
Individually enclosed water closets were given their own wallpaper identities, allowing each space to feel like a small discovery while remaining connected through the repeated burgundy millwork.
The Details That Shape the Space
Richly Layered, Carefully Balanced
The strongest moments come from the way color, shape, light, and material repeat throughout the room.
Saturated but Intentional
Deep burgundy establishes the room’s identity, while pale wallcoverings, marble surfaces, reflective mirrors, and warm metal finishes prevent the palette from feeling heavy.
Curves Create Continuity
Rounded vanity profiles, shaped mirrors, fluted sconces, and sweeping wallpaper motifs soften the architectural lines and create a subtle rhythm throughout the space.
Layered for Atmosphere
With no natural light available, reflective surfaces, decorative sconces, lighter upper walls, and a crystal chandelier were layered to keep the room flattering, warm, and inviting.
The Final Reveal
A Commercial Interior That Became Part of the Conversation
The completed renovation transformed the restroom into a point of pride for the client and a memorable part of the visitor experience. The response was immediate and enthusiastic, proving that even the most practical spaces can create an emotional connection when they are designed with imagination and intention.
